An early experiment of Project Glass Ceiling, the Absolver, designated EX01D was the experiment’s earliest attempt to graft an enhanced symbiote into the body of a selected humanoid host, with hopes that the human body would absorb the symbiote and in turn undergo a rapid metamorphosis to the superhuman standards they had hoped for. Instead the opposite effect took place, something that had never been witnessed before. The human body instead became a host for the symbiote, and began rapidly growing upon its host, ultimately absorbing them and medically killing them.
Though it seemed some simulacrum of the host’s humanity remained in the new monstrous beast, with certain keywords and phrases lulling or distracting them for a moment, it ultimately seemed the host was now part of this strange amalgamation.Further experimentations were planned to see if the creature could be controlled at all, to limited success. This ultimately failed and resulted in a near-containment breach, with a dozen of the labs workers killed in the experiment. The lab, X-02, was promptly abandoned and scheduled for destruction, though when agents of Tomas Lumens caught wind of this, he instead ordered that the lab be searched for anything that might incriminate the crown, and bring back whatever technology and experiments they could.
Ultimately, none of the agents that were sent returned, slaughtered by EX01D who finally breached his containment, stomping through the foetid swamps that surrounded the laboratory until it reached the outskirts of Grimhelm. Now the city’s outskirts are its hunting ground, where it prowls at night to feast on those who might bravely venture past the safety of their lanterns. Yet as the rebellion begins and blood seeps into the soil, the Absolver’s hunger grows ravenous, its appetite whet from the bloodsoaked air. Its attacks have since grown more deadly, and in its consumption, its mass grows by each body it feasts upon. The Inquisitors and guards have paid little mind to it, passing off the stories as tall tales espoused by drunkards and bored gossiping housewives of the outskirts, all the while ignoring the threat. Soon it may pose too big of a threat to ignore however, and in the shadows of death that linger over Grimhelm when the rebellion is over, it will make its move.
