Though hated by nearly every colleague for his obnoxious bravado and nonstop bragging, Jonas remains untouchable under the protection of Skilet, the cartel boss who sees him as essential to the casino’s success. Jonas the Trick (usually called Jonas the Prick by his colleagues) is a man with an ego bigger than his brain, and a reputation for being insufferable to work with and be around in general. Most patrons of the Crescent Moon Casino see him most nights on the Casino Floor, bouncing between the “Pleb Floor” and the highrollers, fleecing whoever’s unlucky enough to go against him at a table out of their hard earned (or hard won) coins. Though most patrons think him a regular, in truth Jonas is an employee of the Rossa Cartel, charged with using his illusion magic to subtly influence the outcomes of games across the casino, to ensure big winners don’t win too big against the house, and in peer-to-peer games, the house secretly wins, taking his earnings and giving them to his employers.
With it being known that magic is banned and easily detected within the casino, few think twice about his winnings, often just believing he has done this for so long he simply knows the ins and outs of every game, and indeed he is a terrific actor when it comes to playing his part. Most employees at the casino are not even aware of Jonas’ true nature, and like the patrons simply believe he is part of the crowd. Though Ygris, Brick and all other management staff are well aware that Jonas is under the employ of Skilet to ensure profitability of the business.
Unfortunately for Jonas, his enormous ego makes it difficult to keep this in check, and whenever he is off the casino floor, he yaps like a precocious child bragging about being able to wipe their own ass. It’s an ill-loved trait in the Cartel, and quite a few members would be glad to put a blade through his tongue if they could get away with it. But unfortunately for them, he’s under Skilet’s protection and eyes, deemed as essential staff for the business.
